Ana Maria Gutierrez

Ana María Gutierrez de Piñeres presents to us her work, Walls.

In it, she evidences the tangible and intangible limits that encompass her relationship with both exterior and what defines her own character. An encounter with transience and freedom, it is also a reflection about how we believe them boundless and inexistent. As with the rest of her artistic career, Walls carries a profound feminine intuitiveness and is a discourse about her relationship with her surroundings and her struggle to adapt to them. Anamaría describes her latest work beyond the obvious and defines it as “all those barriers that define the physical, emotional and spiritual confines of our existence.” With it she defies not only the now, but invites us to think critically about what we are believed to be since before we are born.

Her work evidences her ability to survive while remaining a spectator of a world that is both menacing and discoverable, full of contradictions and in constant change. Walls, that like character are transformable and define pathways, opportunities and unique contexts that as define as the may seem can disappear in the blink of an eye.

Witnessing her work, each made of fragments of our urban landscape that together make a Wall, she invites us to question ourselves about which barrier is worth fighting to keep erect and which we are capable of bringing down.
